2008 Carolinas Golf League Championship Tournament to be held at Tobacco Road The Carolinas PGA Section is proud to announce the date and location for the Carolinas PGA Golf League Championship. League Championship Finals for the Carolinas PGA Golf League Championship have been slated for Tobacco Road Golf Club in Sanford, N.C. Top league teams from throughout the Carolinas will have their chance to capture the inaugural Championship on Saturday, October 11, 2008. Tobacco Road is an extremely unique venue and one which will build interest in this new Growth of the Game initiative introduced to the Section in February, 2008. One of four Mike Strantz designed golf courses in the Carolinas, Tobacco Road is well-known for it’s varying landscapes, crater-like bunkers and mind-boggling blind shots, of which there are five. Tobacco Road was named the 10th toughest golf course in the United States in 2007 by Golf Digest and has been heralded as “golf’s rock-and-roll thrill-ride.” Ron Schmid, Executive Director of the Carolinas PGA Section is looking forward to crowning the first Carolinas PGA Golf League Champion at Tobacco Road. “This course is just one of those places that really challenges your concept of golf and your concept of what a golf course should be. It’s a truly beautiful place, and we’re excited that our league champions throughout the Carolinas will have the opportunity to compete there.” The Carolinas PGA Golf League Championship is a new Growth of the Game initiative for the Section, that is working toward bringing league play to a more competitive level throughout North and South Carolina. Potential Carolinas PGA Golf League Championship teams are a part of leagues that field 20 or more golfers in two-person teams. Those leagues also participate in a full league season which consists of at least nine, 9-hole rounds of golf. To become a part of the first Carolinas PGA Golf League Championship season and for a chance to compete for the Championship at Tobacco Road Golf Club, ask your local Carolinas PGA Professional for more information. The Golf League Championship is a 2-person team league event that qualifies winners from participating leagues, puts them in a season ending Championship Tournament, and determines and declares State League Champions.  Simply register your league by creating or renewing a league, utilize the site tools for managing your league play, meet minimum playing requirements by September 15, send your top 2-person team to the League Championship Tournament on September 29, and see if your league's top team becomes the State Golf League Champion.
